Purple!

I've been working late, chasing a deadline. Good thing it's been raining; we haven't missed any beach time.

This is from a whole month ago, on Boundary Bay beach.

Turkish towel drying out on sand. Well past its sell-by date, and turning purple.

I'm yawning in between every two words.  Goodnight, all!

Promises!

I've got an extremely busy weekend coming up; my family is having a work party here all day tomorrow, and I promised them authentic Mexican food for supper. There won't be much time for blogging until Monday. To make up for it, I'll post recipes. This time, they're easy ones.

Meanwhile, here are a few tiny flowers from the Oregon grape shrubs next door.

Oregon grape. Actual size, about 1/4 inch.

Clean desk, with bird.

At least, this one ...

I gave my Dad this miniature roll-top in Mexico, some 40-odd years ago. He kept it on his working desk until his death. Now it's beside mine. The bird is from Metepec.

My real desk isn't quite so empty. But at least the stack of papers is gone.

Tomorrow; beach critters.

Waiting for the sun

I'm tied up with work and a deadline for a couple of days.

Here's a fine morning a week ago.

Dawn, with pigeon and wires.
Now, back to the grindstone ...

A 30-hour day would be handy about now.

I've been working too long, too hard, too late. Now there's no time to post.

But there's plenty of great reading in the latest Carnival of the Blue, over at Observations of a Nerd, and even more goodies in the 50th Circus of the Spineless, at Arthropoda.

I'll be back in the morning, with some stuck-up spiders.

And just because; a curl of dead kelp, coils of worm poop and water refraction. Boundary Bay, low tide.

Never thought I'd get here

Finished! Caught up! Finally!

I'm back on schedule; all the work on my desk is current, not overdue. *Deep, contented breath. Aaaah!* Now for the fun stuff!

Yay! Grafitti: Crescent Beach

Next post: on the rocks.

The rocks: Kwomais Point, at ground level.

It's been a long haul ...

Cruisin' down the Fraser

I've been working late, rushing to catch up after the delays last week. I need to remember ...

on Sunday afternoon, at New Westminster Quay, watching a boat named, "No Hurry".

And here she is, against the light downriver, with the sunshine making everything glittery and sharp-edged.

No hurry. What gets done, gets done. What doesn't, will get done tomorrow.

I'm off to bed.

Beauty break. Better than coffee.

Is the earth spinning faster than it used to? It sure seems that way. Here it is Thursday morning, and I swear that only yesterday it was Monday.

Or is it that I've been buried in work? Could be.

I took a tiny break yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon to inspect my garden. The plants have been busy, too; see what they've produced!

New pink columbine blooms among the greenery.

Lily of the valley. They always remind me of my grandmother. She had lily of the valley patterned china.

I've forgotten, for the moment, what these are. I'll know in a day or two, when they are fully open.

London Pride, up close.

And out on the lawn, English daisies.

And now, for a nap, and -- back to the salt mines.

Lucky me.

Blog Housekeeping day

I've been working on the innards of the blog today, updating, tidying, monkey-wrenching. The "house" is a mess, and I've got my hands full of tools.

So, no pics today. Why don't you go on over to Andrea's place, instead; she's hosting the 29th Circus of the Spineless, and she's got all kinds of goodies for visitors. There's a post on finding ant nests with Google Earth, and a great soup recipe that nobody wants to try, on Snail's Tales.

Well, it's back to work for me. Come on back tomorrow; I'll have the kettle on.

Friday Morning, 2 AM

Work finished, babysitting finished, assorted appointments kept. Whew!

And now to sleep!

Spider blogging coming up anon.

Tiny! Barely visible to the naked eye.

Three AM.

It's the end of another too-full day, and almost the start of the next.

I used to tell myself, back when the kids were growing up, "Just a few more years, until they're teens -- make that gone off to college -- make that settled down -- make that don't need a babysitter -- well, anyhow, soon now, things will slow down. And I will catch up on all the stuff in to-do file."

Silly notion.

A big file landed on my desk this afternoon. On top of a promised-and-deadlined translation. And the weekend was already overbooked.

I was tearing my hair out, when I looked up from the screen and saw this outside my window:
maple buds... and put aside my paperwork and went out to pre-survey my plot for the bioblitz. A chickadee was calling, "Here, pretty!" and the robin told me to "Cheer up!"
So I did.

Who wants life to be slow, anyhow? That's boring!
