Stumps, moss, catkins

Seen on a path down the hill and through the shady woods:

Two ancient stumps covered with green moss and lichens.

Jolly nurse stump.

Sunlight catches the moss on the bottom section of a tall huckleberry.

And coming out into the light at the shore of Robert's Lake, I saw this stand of alders with the pink glow of spring catkins at the tip of the branches.

The male catkins are long and dangly and bear tiny red flowers.

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.

Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
