The Himalayan blackberries in my front yard were ripe two weeks ago, black and sweet. That's down here just above sea level. Up in the hills, they're ripening later. These ones, the earliest still small and green last week, are growing on a sunny hill 12 kilometres inland, at 240 metres above sea level. (They have a way to go yet; they'll turn pink, then red, then purple, then finally, when they're ripe, black.)
And the bumblebees were busy.

A bumblebee in flight almost looks as if it were jumping.

Bombus vancouverensis?

And another, a female.

Note the orange pollen baskets on her legs.
Female bumblebees collect pollen to carry back to the nest in sacs called corbiculae on their hind legs. With their front legs, they brush together the pollen that sticks to their hairs, moisten it with nectar, compact it with the combs on their hind legs, and stuff it into the baskets. A full basket may contain a million pollen grains.

And the bumblebees were busy.

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.
Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
