The road just travelled

 Looking back:

The view in my rear-view mirror.

Pye Lake West road. It goes on through the woods and over the hills to a few campsites on Pye Lake. I've never made it that far; the road gets rocky and very steep; too risky for my little car and its tires, so soon I am looking for a spot wide enough to turn the car around. But every time I check out the lower stretch, I see something interesting. Stumps, elk scat, and lichen this trip.

And up the hill, it's so quiet! Wind whispering among the dried ferns, distant murmur of a car or two down on the highway, crunch of my footsteps on the rocks. And a smell of moss and mist.

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.

Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
