On a hillside under the deep shade of tall cedars beside John Hart Lake, I passed a large patch of Amanita muscaria mushrooms, in all stages of growth, from creamy buttons pushing their way up through the soil, to the classic "Mario game" šmushrooms, to the mature wide, flat plates loaded with fallen cedar leaves.

Photos taken with flash; it was very dark down there.

The mature caps may grow to 30 cm. across; this one is about 1/3 that.

Three stages of growth. And a few slug bites.

The same group, from the opposite side.
I looked everywhere, and saw no other mushroom species in this area. Still too dry for them. It's supposed to rain tomorrow. I hope.

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.
Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
