Ice flowers

On the highway north, I stopped where road work had cleared away the trees, leaving a spot with a clear view of the mountains. The machines had left a slope covered with gravel, leading down to a creek below. Small hairy plants have started to push their way through the rocks; now, with freezing temperatures, each hair carries an ice crystal.

I'm calling them ice flowers.

The long stem is the base of a flower stalk.

I can't identify the plant, frozen as it is.

Frozen flower stalks.

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.

Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
