Staying warm

When the wind is chilly and the nights are long, overwintering plants (and lichens) like a cosy container garden.

Practice chain-saw cuts hold in the heat.

Moss and cladonia lichen in the heartwood.

Cladonia lichen over a bed of moss.

The tinies, just getting started. Moss, lichen, kinnikinnick.

Oyster Bay woods, last week. Now they're all even cozier, under a blanket of snow.

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.

Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
