Show-offs

Wow. Reclaiming some waste ground beyond my zucchini patch, I planted marigolds, and they did nothing, nothing, nothing. All June, most of July. Then, suddenly, they took off, and I have flowers.

Pot marigold, Calendula officinalis. Not the least bit shy.

They even make the dahlias look modest.

If you can call this modest.

Bonus: the deer don't eat either of these.

En una esquina del jardín, donde antes cruzaba un camino, sembré caléndulas, con el intento de mejorar la tierra. Y ... nada. Nada. Todo el mes de junio, casi todo julio, nada. Y luego, de repente, brotaron y abrieron flores.

    1. Una caléndula, Calendula officinalis. Muy llamativo; hasta deja en la sombra las dalias.

    2. Dalia, un tanto avergonzada.

Una ventaja que ofrecen estas flores: no se las comen los vendaditos.
