And then there are the dogwood flowers. Big white flowers, showy, up there in the trees where everything else is green. The camera zooms in, picking out one flower, one branch.

Actually, the flowers are tiny; those big white things are the bracts. |

Another, with beetles. |

They're Vancouver Flower Longhorn beetles, Evodinus vancouveri |
Looking up the Dogwoods, to confirm the spelling of the name (3 double letters in Cornus nuttallii) I noticed that, though this tree is BC's official flower, it grows only in the southern part of the province. Here on Vancouver Island, the farthest north report on iNaturalist is here in Campbell River, slightly north of mid-island. E-Flora's most northern report is south of Gold River.
I looked up the beetles; they browse on other flowers, and can be found farther north, even as far as the Alaska border.

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.
Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
