And, and, and ...

I almost didn't go out. The sky was grey, the light was dim. It looked like rain. More rain, that is. But then the sun made a half-hearted attempt to break through the gloom; it would be a pity to waste that bit of light. Maybe I could go and see how the river trail was shaping up; would there be new leaves already?

And I'm glad I went. The salmonberries are blooming! And there are trilliums! And pink fawn lilies! And oodles of huckleberry flowers, and the river chattered cheerfully, and it didn't rain, and I found a new lichen and ...

So I have a ton of photos to process. For now, here's the first salmonberry flower I've seen this year.

Rubus spectabilis. A promise of sweet trail munchies later on.

No pensaba salir hoy. Nubes grises cubrían el cielo, dejándonos en penumbra. Parecía que iba a llover en cualquier momento; como de costumbre. Pero en la tarde el sol trataba de penetrar las nubes, y sería una lástima desperdiciar su esfuerzo. Tal vez, pensé, podría ir a mirar el senderito a la orilla del rio, para ver si ya habrían brotado las hojas de primavera.

¡Y los salmonberry (Rubus spectabilis) ya han abierto sus flores! ¡Y hay trilios blancos (Trillium grandiflorum)! ¡Y los lirios "de los venaditos" (fawn lily, Erythronium revolutum)! Y abundantes flores de huckleberry (Vaccinium parvifolium), y el rio cantaba y no llovió y encontré un liquen que nunca había visto y ...

Así que tengo una tonelada de fotos para revisar y procesar. Por ahora, aquí está la primera flor de salmonberry que he visto este año.
