A thin film of ice formed on part of a shallow beaver pond. Or maybe the better word is a beaver waterway; a sort of slow-flowing, spread-out creek finding its way around clumps of grasses in a wetland. In a spot where the water was exposed to wind, there was ice, and on top of the ice, a few centimeters of snow. With tracks.
Small tracks, mostly two by two. But not always. |
Zooming in. I don't see toe marks, nor a dragging tail mark. |
What small animal made these? I've been searching through track descriptions on umpteen websites; none quite matched. Too small, I think, to be a raccoon; it would have broken through the ice, probably. Too big to be a mouse, too far apart. Not a beaver. Nor a rat; I would see a tail line.
Any ideas?

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.
Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
