Arbutus to young maple

Things seen while I was searching for spiders and finding mushrooms, in no particular order. (Well, it appears that Blogger decided to load them in alphabetical order by the file name. I won't argue.)

A look at the trunk of an arbutus. Inner bark, brick-red peeling bark, older bark.

This inner layer of the bark of the arbutus is photosynthetic, like the leaves.

Dangling cat-tail moss in a dark forest setting.

Tiny lichens on a pear tree. Inset; showing brown spikes (rhizines) on the underside.

More lichens on the same branch.

Aging hydrangea.

A young maple shows off its crop of orange leaves.

And there were a few pink flowers. I'll leave those for tomorrow.

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.

Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
