Outside my window

This is what greeted me at my kitchen window this morning.

A doe and her fawn.

The doe was eating my hydrangea leaves; one of the fawns was nibbling on the mock orange. There were two fawns; the second was off to the side, eating dandelions.

The fawn, considering my house plants.

I had seen this small family earlier this week. The city is tearing up my street to put in new drains, and the road was full of holes and machines chugging and clanking away. And Ma deer and her babies walked down the street, avoiding the holes, totally unconcerned about the noise and activity around them.

And now they've discovered my flower bed. There are apples out back, too, and scarlet runner beans. And roses. And sweet peas. I think they'll be back.

The youngster, getting ready to follow Mom down the street after a last mouthful of hydrangea leaves.

The fawns lose their spots when they're sometime between 3 or 4 months old. These two are fairly large, but still spotty.

  2. I love how they're framed in that first shot, looking at the startled artsy cat!

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.

Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
