The chicks cross the road

I came around a curve in the highway beside Buttle Lake and surprised a pheasant family crossing the road; a hen with three chicks. Lucky I was dawdling along, so I managed to stop without frightening them. They crossed the road and she stood on the side for a while, watching me.

Poor photos, taken through the car window, but the encounter made my day.

The mother and one running chick.

The chicks ran across quickly; their mother took her time. No rush. Two cars stopped now. She knows her value.

She was as interested in me as I was in her.

One brave chick. The other two were half hidden behind leaves.

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.

Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
