Innies and Outies

 A few more mushrooms:

Unidentified 'shrooms"

These were scattered along a path in open, dry forest, about 2 inches tall.

The colour ranges from a rich brown to off-white.

A broken one, as found, showing the gills.

Reading descriptions of mushrooms, trying without success to identify these, I found similar caps described as "umbonate". An umbo is a raised area in the centre of a mushroom cap.

In the wetlands at Nunns Creek, on a mossy log, the tiny mushrooms have the opposite shape: umbilicate, with an indentation, a "navel" in the centre of the cap. It's scientific name L. umbellifera, refers to this shape.

Lichen agaric mushrooms, Lichenomphalia umbellifera.

The mushroom only grows in association with the green alga, Coccomyxa sp.

Mycologyst.art has a useful page showing the different cap shapes and their names.

 Y algunos hongos:

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.

Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
