Photo shy

Far down the beach, in the long afternoon shadows below heaps of dead eelgrass, this blue heron was fishing. As we approached, he moved away, almost invisible at times against the dark background. We finally caught him in a sunlit stretch, as he flew to the far side of a log pile, stopped to see if we still followed, then flew away for good.

From this angle, he has an oddly misshapen body.

Back to his usual sleekness.

  1. He is beautiful - and I love his reflection!

  2. As we were leaving Powell River to catch the ferry I looked out over the rocky shore and saw a cormorant (I believe) standing on a protruding rock with his wings outstretched. I wanted to get a picture, but no chance. - Margy

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.

Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
