I'm working on a bit of a video. They always take longer than I think they will. I'll just leave a cover image, for now.

Sanderling, Boundary Bay

It almost looks summery, doesn't it? Appearances are deceiving. It was freezing out there. The birds should have been blue with cold.

  1. It's a characterful taster. It looks as if the bird is weighing up whether or not to step further.

  2. So pretty, I love these little ones. Why haven't scientists figured out how they stay warm in such frigid water?

  4. I am going to head north of the border for the first time since September tomorrow if all does well. My destination is White Rock. I have only five hours to make the round trip so it sounded like a safe destination as long as the border crossing times don't kill me. Maybe I'll get some pictures for my blog. - Margy

  5. Country Mouse, It's not much of a mystery; a combination of constant feeding, efficient combustion (their lungs are better than ours), highly efficient insulation, specialized circulation (in the feet), and the ability to slow their metabolism during rest periods. I'm sure they have other tricks, as well; these are just off the top of my head.

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.

Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
