Along the road circling McIvor Lake to the north, on the lake side, here and there glimpses of pale blue or grey glimmer through the dark forest; the water below. On the north, the upper side, there are patches of bright yellow-green behind the trees. Near the highway, the forest thins out, and the shining hill beckons.
 |
| The bright green is a thin coating of wet moss on rock. |
 |
| Top of the rock, too polished for the moss to gain a foothold. |
 |
| On the way back down; a few trees and then the lake. |
 |
| Where the edges of the rock provide shelter, a few other plants grow. The round leaves are Shepherd's Cress, Teesdalia nudicaulis. They will have tiny white flowers later on. |
 |
| Broken face of a rock outcropping. |
 |
Pine tree, puddle, dried grass, lichen.
|
Next: a stone snapped off these rocks.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A lo largo del camino que pasa al norte del lago McIvor, donde el bosque denso lo permite, se puede ver el brillo gris o a veces azul del agua; al otro lado, en la ladera, a veces aparece tras los árboles una luz de color verde amarillento. Cerca de la carretera, el bosque se ha reducido a una hilera de abetos, y se nos presenta un cerrito brillante.
- El color se debe a una capa delgada de musgos mojados sobre la roca.
- La parte superior de la roca, pulida por las lluvias, no ofrece grietas donde el musgo puede establecerse.
- Bajando hacia el camino, se ven el bosque y el lago allá abajo.
- Donde los bordes de las rocas protegen del viento, crecen otras plantas. Estas hojitas redondas son de Teesdalia nudicaulis. Más tarde producirán florecitas blancas.
- Textura de una de las rocas.
- Pino, charco, pasto seco, liquen.
Para mañana; una piedra que se ha separado de estas rocas.
I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.
Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
