First mushrooms of the season from the Oyster Bay little woods. All summer it was too dry, and I didn't see even one there. And now they're all over.

These are big mushrooms. I've tentatively identified them as "Laughing Gym", Gymnopilus ventricosus. It is reputed to be hallucinogenic.

Another big 'shroom. The Western Painted Bolete, Suillus lakei.

It stains easily, turning brown when touched. And it's bluish towards the bottom of the stalk.
These next three photos are of similar mushrooms. Or maybe they're all the same species. Hard to tell, really. Image searches turn up a long list of possibles; small, white, gilled mushrooms with flattish caps that change as they age. A poisonous Amanita sp. is among the look-alikes, as is the Poison Pie.

Unidentified. These ones are wet from the morning's rain.

Google image search defines these as "Poison Pie", Hebeloma crustuliniforme. They were slimy on top.

Another white "umbrella" mushroom.
I've posted all these to iNaturalist; so far, nobody has weighed in.
Next: on to the mushrooms from the museum, in two batches; lawn mushrooms and those I found in the museum 5 acre (2 hectares) forest.

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.
Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
