Rainbow colours, underwater

Is there any humble creature more beautiful than a nudibranch? Just look at these two!

Clown nudibranch, Triopha catalinae

Golden dirona, Dirona pellucida

Supporting cast: the turtle crab, purplish pink encrusting sponges, orange cup corals, a brittle star, a stripy snail (topsnail?), and tiny greenish fuzzies.

And the last of this batch of aquarium photos: three gunnels, green and brown.

The brown ones are crescent gunnels, Pholis laeta.

The green gunnel may be a penpoint gunnel; these come in three colours, red, green, or brown, depending on their diet. The round hole is a discarded glass bottle, with a pink sponge coating. Gunnels use these as hideaways. Not an excuse for careless dumping, but at least they're not plastic.

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.

Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
