Her name is Stella. She doesn't respond to it. She responds to sunlight, warmth, and moving shadows.
Red-eared slider (Trachemys scripta elegans) |
Stella lives in a backyard pond. She was sunning herself on a rock and saw me before I saw her; I caught a flurry of motion, a glimpse of her shell as she dove into the water. But a minute later, she came out to watch me watching her, half-hidden beneath the leaves.
These turtles are listed as an invasive species here in BC. Stella lives in a fenced enclosure; she won't be released into the wild, and won't be producing eggs.

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.
Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
