Dressed for a party

In fashionable black and cream stripes*. Very elegant.

His companion wears a green fleck jacket, and a long, striped skirt.

I'll provide the menu; fish nuggets, with shrimp crunchables. Now, all they need are some noisemakers and shiny hats, and they're ready to ring in the new year.

*The shell is an import that I brought home from the aquarium store. Not their usual choice.

  1. yikes! i was going to say that I'd never seen a snailshell like that in BC.

  2. I have no idea where it came from, but I thought it might be something the hermits would like. They've tried it on a couple of times, then rejected it. This is the first time a hermit actually used it.

  3. I looked it up again, and found it. It's a freshwater snail from Africa, Neritina natalensis zebra. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neritina_natalensis

  4. I wonder if the hermits would ever take terrestrial snail shells. They'd be a lot lighter, so the hermit might not feel as secure in it (plus you'd have the challenge of trying to sink it first)

  5. This one is lighter than the shells my hermits usually choose. For a while, I thought that maybe this was why they didn't use it, but it seems, possibly, that they were just waiting until it aged in the tank.

I might, one of these days, prep a land snail shell and donate it, just to see what they think of it.

  6. I remember that the first post I read on your blog was about your hermit crabs. It's a good way for me to start and new year of reading. - Margy

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.

Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
