Underfoot

I found Blue Eyed Marys blooming today in the Oyster Bay meadow; from my elevated view, standing on my own two feet, they were just a sprinkling of blue specks on the ground.

Blue Eyed Mary, Collinsia parviflora. The large leaves are wild strawberry.

Growing thickly together. The red stems are hairy.

All around the blue-speckled patches, the ground is covered with this tiny, tiny moss, dry and a bit scratchy to lie on. (To take the photos; they were too small for kneelers)

Racomitrium sp., maybe Elongate Rock Moss, R. elongatum. The green leaf is a new blade of grass.

And the tide was low: sandy findings next.

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.

Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
