Crossing the bridge to Baikie Island, I startled a few Canada geese in the water below, and they left in a hurry, honking angrily as they went.

Later, from the far side of the island, I found them sleeping. They didn't mind me this time; they were on the next island over.

Of the sleeping geese, all but one of the ones closer to me were sleeping standing on one leg. How do they do that? Such perfect balance!

Cruzando el puente de la isla Baikie, sorprendí unos gansos canadienses que descansaban en el agua debajo del puente, y todos se lanzaron al aire y huyeron, con gran ruido de alas y graznidos.
- Apenas se han levantado del agua.
- Son pájaros pesados, pesando hasta 6,5 kilos, y les toma tiempo separarse por completo del agua.
- Más tarde, desde el otro lado de la isla, los volví a ver, ahora dormidos. Y no les molestaba mi presencia, ya que estaban en la isla contigua. ¡Me encantan sus barrigas redondas!
- Esta es más o menos la mitad de la bandada. Un ganso se mantiene en guardia mientras los otros duermen.
De todos los gansos dormidos, todos menos uno de los que pude ver claro dormían parados sobre una sola pata. ¿Cómo mantienen el equilibrio, así dormidos? ¡Asombroso!
