Observation post

I'm seeing more eagles than I have for a while, mostly wheeling overhead, sometimes perched on a snag. This one was watching ducks and gulls from trees beside the beach.

A lopsided tree, shaped by weather, makes a good lookout.

Eagle-eyed.

Most of the ducks I could see were out in the deep water, most too far away to identify, but the eagle can see them clearly up to 5 km. away; from this vantage point he could see buffleheads that even my camera at its best only registers as dark dots.

Distant mallards, and behind them, half-hidden by the waves, 7 buffleheads.

Another Skywatch post.

  2. It looks like the Eagle is measuring how tall it is. LOL! So cute. But he is really surveying the neighborhood for its meal. Smart bird!

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.

Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
