Pale green stump fur

More lichens. These are on dry stumps in full sun, on a logged-off hillside.

More Cladonia lichens.

Many Cladonia lichens have two forms, easily distinguished on this stump: they start out as tiny green thalli, scale-like. As they mature, the tall fruiting bodies form; hollow, grainy tubes called podetia, with the reproductive organs held at the top, red, brown or pink, mostly; some are black.

These podetia are about 1 cm. tall.

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.

Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
