The sun has come out today. There are even patches of blue sky. And the rain has washed away all the snow from the roads.
Where to go today? I check the tide tables; should I walk on the shore?
Twice each year, we have a few days of extreme low tides, around the time of the solstices. And sure enough, the tide goes down to its lowest level these days. Or nights: last night it was at the 0 line at midnight. During the too-short day, the water hovers between high and very high, leaving a narrow strip of beach to walk on.
In mid-summer, it's the other way 'round; the low tides are around noon. Here's a photo from last June:

Hot salió el sol. Y hasta hay un poco de cielo azul. Y la lluvia lavó toda la nieve de los caminos.
Hay que decidir: ¿a dónde iré hoy? Miro las gráficas de los tiempos y nivel de las mareas: ¿sería buena idea ir a caminar en la playa?
En dos épocas de cada año tenemos unos dias de mareas muy bajas, alrededor de los solsticios de invierno y verano. Y veo que si, en estos dias la marea llega a sus niveles más bajos. Bueno, no; es en estas noches. Anoche la marea estaba en el nivel cero, pero a medianoche. Durante el dia, y ese dia es muy corto, la marea varía entre alta y muy alta, dejando muy poco lugar para caminar.
A mediados del verano, la situación es la opuesta; la marea baja a lo máximo de dia y se mantiene alta toda la noche. La foto arriba es del junio pasado: hierbas marinas y una garza azul. Y agua azul.
¡Paciencia! Creo que hoy voy a buscar líquenes, dejando las playas para dias mejores.
