Stump edge mushrooms

At the end of October last year, I searched the Campbell River museum grounds for mushrooms; there were many, of many different species. I looked again this year, after the first rains, finding few. It has been raining all month; yesterday there were mushrooms all over. A few were the same species as last year, in almost the same spots, but there were new ones, most surprisingly, these:

These were big! 6 inches across and more!

Out in the centre of the lawn. The stumps they are on are old, but the mushrooms weren't there last year.

Buttons on stump # 2. With a slug.

Buttons on stump # 1. With a slug bitten hole.

Stump # 3.

I think these were all Douglas fir stumps: at least the standing trees around this part of the lawn are Douglas firs.

Tomorrow, some of the other mushrooms I found.

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.

Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
