Spring! Spring! Spring!
Yes, it's coming; spring is coming.
I know, because:
-- Laurie brought home a bag of soil yesterday; today he spent an hour outside in the cold getting his hands dirty.
-- The lawn is growing.
-- The northern shoveller I saw the other day was wearing breeding colours.
-- My perennials are poking through the soil, if they hid over the winter. Those that stayed green are spreading already.
-- And my daffodils are several inches high!
Yay!
The photo shows a sheltered spot under a juniper last week. Even with several inches of snow on the ground, all the encouragement the grass and heather need is that tiny gradient in temperature.

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.
Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!

Sounds like somebody is really anxious for spring!
ReplyDeleteMy brother lives in Winnipeg, and he keeps reporting on the below zero cold with pristine snow.
You must have milder weather in BC than Manitoba.
Can you tell?
ReplyDeleteIt's my favourite season. All those fresh greens in the understory, the crocuses in gardens and salmonberry blooms in the bush, salmon fry in the creeks, the chickadee mating songs, the roar of the lawnmowers ...
... I can hardly wait.
Yes, BC is mild. There are winters where we have no snow at all here in Vancouver, just rain and mist.
BTW, I left a comment on your blog.
You are making me envious. My daffodils were poking up in early January because winter was late in arriving, but we are in a deep freeze now. I won't see green for a while.
ReplyDeleteYou are making me envious.
ReplyDeleteI guess I am. It's the usual response when we BCers talk about the climate. Which we do a lot. We are wicked, wicked people.
