Two weeks ago I walked back and forth through the little woods at Oyster Bay, looking for mushrooms and found none. Yesterday, I went back. And the mushrooms are up.

There were several patches of these, featureless white gilled mushrooms, many hidden under leaves.

The cap of the largest of these would be about 2 cm. across. The Douglas-fir needles that cover the ground here serve as measuring sticks; they grow to about half an inch, 1.25 cm. long.

This was hidden under the branches of a young Douglas-fir, and nestled up against a log for extra protecion. I wouldn't have seen it if I hadn't been down on my knees looking at some others too tiny for the lens I had on my camera.

I was looking, again, for the red slime molds I found here two years ago in February. No sign of them. I wonder; do they grow again in the same locations, or do they somehow move on? I'll keep searching for them.

Hace quince dias anduve por los senderos en el bosquecito de Oyster Bay, buscando hongos. No encontré ni uno. Regresé ayer, y ya brotaron en todas partes.
Fotos:
- Hongos pálidos con las hojas de álamo del año pasado. Hubo varios grupos de estos, muchos escondidos bajo las hojas.
- Un grupo de hongos umbonados, grises, pero con un poco de violeta. El más grande mide aproximadamente 2 cm de diámetro, usando las agujas de abeto de Douglas como guía; éstos miden hasta 1,25 cm.
- Un hongo un poco tímido. Se escondía bajo las ramas de un abeto de Douglas joven; las ramas casi llegaban al suelo, y el hongo se refugiaba además, en la sombra de un tronco. No lo hubiera visto si no hubiera estado de rodillas mirando unos honguitos demasiado pequeños para sacarles una foto con la lente que traía puesta en la cámara.
- Y había un troncón totalmente cubierto de hongos. Aquí viene con líquenes Cladonia.

Buscaba el moho mucilanigoso rojo que encontré en este sitio en febrero del '21. Nada, ni sus luces. Me pregunto: ¿No crecerán otra vez en el mismo sitio, o es que de alguna manera se trasladen a otro lugar? Seguiré buscándolos.
