While the snow was fresh and spotless, I took the highway west as far as Echo Lake, then returned down a gravel road that runs behind the lake and wanders here and there, following the whims of a browsing deer, it seems, eventually making its way back to the other highway.
The road was smoothed by clean, packed snow. Easy driving, easy on the eyes.
Near the end, "civilization" in view. (Overhead wires.)
Second lake. In the sunlight, the trees are shedding snow. (Centre of the photo.)
Snowy branches overhead.
Another lake view. The pinkish shrubs are hardhack, the green stems are the invasive broom.
Big-leaf maples. Where the sun shines, all is warm browns; in the shade, blues and blacks.
And then I crossed the Quinsam river. About that, tomorrow.
