Around the museum, year after year, October mushrooms, pink and purple, tan and brown ones, sprout in the same locations on the lawns and in the woods. Not this year. I drove up to Lake Roberts to see mushrooms in a spot I'd found them before: nothing there, either.
I checked my photos from the last 3 years. There have always been many mushrooms in those same spots, year after year in October.
But that's on the ground. Where mushrooms have grown before on old stumps, they're back. Not as many as in previous years, but the ones that did show up look healthy. Maybe the dead roots, going deep into the soil, bring up moisture even when the topsoil is toasted.
Old Faithfuls. The grass is green again, after a few days of rain. |
A clump of round yellow balls on stems. |
The same ones, from the opposite side. |
On the base of the donkey engine. |
In other years, these last ones, on the donkey engine, grew larger, but in groups of 2 or 3. This year, one crack in the logs is full, but they're tiny. Maybe they'll be bigger in a few days.
- Con estos se puede contar. El césped se está volviendo a enverdecer después de unos dias de llovizna.
- Un grupo de honguitos redondos.
- El mismo, desde el otro lado.

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.
Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
