Big leaves, small leaves

Mini-buds and feathery leaves:

Yarrow, still closed, still fuzzy.

And big leaves, big flowers:

I don't know what this is. A sunflower but only knee-high. With a busy bee.

In the Oyster Bay meadow.

  1. The yellow flower is Balsamroot, possibly Puget balsamroot/ Balsamorhiza deltoidea. According to my Wildflowers of the Pacific Northwest it occurs on the Island. Slopes full of Balsamroot is a glorious sight down here in OR and Wa in the spring!

    1. Found it on E-Flora BC. It's red-listed here, but they have 4 records in the Campbell River area.

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.

Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
