Reaching for the sun

An old cottonwood in winter:

Bare branches, covered trunk

Life goes on, winter or summer. While the leaves are composting on the ground, the mosses bask in the light. Here, near the crown, a patch of licorice ferns, shade lovers, grows on the north side of the tree.

Ridge Trail, Elk Falls Provincial Park, high above the Campbell River.

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.

Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
