On the stump of a palm tree, cut down to knee height, dead and dry; very dry, out in the blazing sunshine on the edge of a sidewalk, a few mushrooms were growing. Dry mushrooms, of course.
The stump was hot, dry, and as hard as the cobblestones around it. |
The biggest mushroom is about 3 inches tall. They were hot to the touch, too. |
There must be some moisture down deep inside the stump. |
