Well-dressed grasshopper

For once, a grasshopper let me approach without flying away. Maybe he realized that I couldn't climb his rock in a blackberry patch.

For now, he's unidentified.

Found at Mud Bay, end of August.


  1. I suspect he's a type of spur-throated grasshopper--one of these or one of the others of the Melanoplus genus. Their larger body to wingspan ratio limits their maneuverability and duration of flight, flying only shallow curves and straight lines.
