I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.
Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!

Homogeneization: it's the way we live today. In some ways, it's good. After all, it's just an ocean separating us, and these days, an ocean isn't such a big deal. So our kids play on the same equipment, and so do we, with our adult toys, and it drives home the fact that we are neighbours.

I think the hood ornament is a stylized Dodge ram. There were umpteen versions of it. You can see one here.
