Like a yellow marble with legs. And eyes.

A drop-in visitor. I found her in the bottom of a bowl that had held peanuts. She couldn't climb out, and I dumped her onto the kitchen counter, then offered her a leaf that might seem more friendly.

She liked the leaf. Common candy-striped spider, Enoplognatha ovata.

Side view. She may reach a length of 6 mm. 

These spiders are usually seen in ground-level vegetation; she will roll up a leaf, tie it together with silk and guard her eggs there. I don't know how she found her way into my peanut bowl. Once she was settled on the leaf, I moved it to a windowsill between potted plants. A few minutes later, she had chosen one. I haven't seen her since.

Tuve una visita ayer. La encontré en el fondo de un tazón que había contenido cacahuates. No podía escapar por lo resbaloso del interior, pero la volteé sobre la cubierta en la cocina, y luego le ofrecí una hoja, que me parecía sería más a su gusto.

    1. Le gustó la hoja. Es una araña Enoplognatha ovata, en inglés la araña con rayos de golosina.

    2. Vista lateral. Puede alcanzar hasta 6 mm. desde la cara a las hileras.

Estas arañas se encuentran entre la hierba cerca del suelo; las hembras enrollan una hoja, la amarran con seda, y allí cuidan a sus huevos. No me imagino como es que llegó a mi sala y el tazón de los cacahuates. Una vez que se quedó tranquila sobre la hoja, la llevé (la hoja con ella encima) a mi ventana y la dejé entre macetas de plantas. En unos pocos minutos, había escogido una, y no la he vuelto a ver.
