Where the museum's little woods meets the paved parking lot, a muddy edge cut into the hillside, half covered in a mulch of needles, twigs and dying leaves, a goodly crop of brown mushrooms has sprung up.

One of these, well past its prime, has lost the top of the cap, and the liberated gills have flared out, so that they look like flower petals.

Donde el bosquecito del museo llega al estacionamiento pavimentado, un borde cortado en el declive, un tramo lodoso cubierto en los desechos del bosque, ramitas y hojas muertas, conos de abeto de Douglas y sus hojitas, allí ha brotado un núnero de hongos marrones.
- Hojas muertas de arce de hoja grande, y de aliso rojo; conos de abeto de Douglas, y sus hojitas. Y los hongos.
- Uno de estos hongos, ya bien pasado de su condición óptima, ha perdido la capa superior del sombrero, dejando las laminillas en libertad. Y así sin restricciones, se han abierto hasta parecer pétalos de una flor.
