Let it rain

 Summer is nice; the sunshine is welcome, as long as it's not too enthusiastic, the warmth, within reason, is pleasant. But nothing rejoices my soul like the rain and the mists of the rest of the year.

It makes sense. I grew up on the we(s)t coast of this island. Type "rainiest place in North America" into Google; it comes up with Henderson Lake, in the centre of the island. That same page has a list of the top 10 rainiest spots in BC; #7 on that list is Tahsis, where I first arrived on the coast, and near where I lived for a dozen years, with its 203 days of rain a year, plus another 13 of snow.

The west coast of British Columbia receives the most rainfall in all of Canada. In fact, British Columbia’s coastline areas dominate the top ten list of Canada’s rainiest places. (a-z animals)

On that top ten list, towns on Vancouver Island, a short drive to the north of here; Port McNeill, also with 203 days of rain, Alert Bay, and Port Hardy, fill the #4, 5, and 7 spaces. (Tahsis is on the west coast, closer, as the crow flies, than Alert Bay, on this east coast.)

Good thing I like rainy weather.

This one I took through the windshield, between passes by the windshield wipers. Shortly after this, I turned back; the road was covered in slush and the car didn't respond happily to the steering wheel.

I love a curving road, hemmed in between evergreens, the view softened by mist.

El verano es agradable; el sol, mientras no se ponga demasiado fuerte, está bien recibido; el calor, hasta cierto punto, se aprecia. Pero nada me llena el alma como las lluvias y neblinas que nos traen las otras temporadas del año.

Claro está, porque crecí en la costa occidental de esta isla. La costa mojada, le decimos en inglés, omitiendo la letra "s" en "west". Escribe, para Google, "el sitio con la mayor cantidad de lluvia en Norteamérica", y Google te responde con "Henderson Lake", un lago en el centro de la isla. Ese mismo sitio web tiene una lista de los 10 sitios más lluviosos de Columbia Británica; el #7 en esa lista es Tahsis, donde por primera vez llegué a la isla, y cerca de donde viví por una docena de años; allí llueve 203 dias al año, además de otros 13 cuando cae nieve.

La costa al oeste de Canadá recibe la mayor cantidad de lluvia de todo el pais. De hecho, las zonas de las costas de la Columbia Británica dominan la lista de los 10 sitios con más lluvia de todo Canadá. (a-z animals)

En esa lista, pueblos en la isla de Vancouver, todos un poco al norte de aquí; Port McNeill, también con sus 203 dias de lluvia, Alert Bay, y Port Hardy; toman el #4, 5, y 7. (Tahsis está en la costa occidental, y está más cerca, al vuelo de pájaro, que Alert Bay, aquí en esta costa al este.)

Que bueno que me gusta la lluvia.

2. La laguna de los castores, bajo neblina, con su madriguera apenas visible. Para esta foto, salí del coche en unos momentos en que la lluvia se detuvo.
3. Cerca del lago Roberts, donde la lluvia se mezclaba con nieve. Con un cuervo (¿lo ves?) y un coche en la distancia. Foto sacada por medio del parabrisas, entre pasos del limpiaparabrisas. Poco después de esto, mi di vuelta y regresé a casa porque el camino estaba cubierto de una mezcla de nieve y agua, muy resbalosa.
4. Llegando a casa. Neblina y una lluvia muy tenue, más bien dicho, aire mojado. En la distancia se ve el mar, apenas.

Me encanta un camino sinuoso encerrado entre árboles verdes, con la vista atenuada por la neblina.
