Hiding in plain sight

By the side of the road north, I came across a patch of tansy, always a good place to look for wasps and hover flies. But though I watched and waited and waited some more, the only pollinator I saw was a tiny moth.

What I didn't see until I looked closely at my photos were all the camouflaged beasties.

Here's the moth. But look! There's a crab spider about to leap. and a yellow caterpillar. and  maybe another crab spider.

But the crab spider was out of luck. 45 seconds later, the spider is still there, but the moth is gone. And there are at least three more spiders laying in wait here.

A crab spider, an ant, and what is that fat brown bug, not camouflaged at all?

Zooming in on the brown bug.

Update: BugGuide identifies it as a plant bug, Miridae sp., probably a Lygus bug.

Another crab spider

Moth, yellow caterpillar, white caterpillar, brown bug, fat crab spider.

Can you find the spiders? Just their stripy legs are visible.

Sharing the patch, pearly everlasting with a big brown bug and a big green stripy caterpillar.

While we're at it, there are two spiders here, pretending to be fireweed fluff in their messy web.

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.

Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
