A few tinies

I've been experimenting with a camera/loupe* combination. I was using the loupe to look for miniature critters in my aquarium and decided to try to get photos of what I was seeing. I used my regular camera with the 40mm lens, and then my pocket camera on the macro setting, which gives a noisy photo, but seems to match the loupe better.

It didn't work for catching the copepods and hair-thin worms. I'll have to try something else. But here is a pair of cute snails, resting after mating.

Periwinkles, maybe?
I got one out (not one of this pair; they were busy) and measured it. Point to mouth, it measured 5mm. The little bright spots in the water are copepods.

And a small limpet. The section of circle is the frame of the loupe.

The whitish coil at the side of the foot is its gills. And in the centre of the mouth, I could see the radula moving, scraping forward; scrape, pause, scrape, pause, scrape ... Always forward, never reversing.

How the radula works. (Wikipedia)

*The loupe looks like one of these.

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.

Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
