Name the animal

It sort of looks like a peacock showing off.

Can you guess what it is?

I'm working on a bunch of photos and videos from a find yesterday afternoon. This was one that went off topic.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Parece pavo real luciendo su plumaje. Pero no. ¿Puedes identificarlo?
Es una foto de un grupo de fotos y videos de algo que hallé ayer por la tarde. Iré subiendo los demás una vez que haya terminado de procesarlos.
  1. It's some flavour of bryozoan...
    1. Yep! Membranipora membranacea on kelp.
    2. That was the old name, which belongs to a species not found here. The correct name, by my Encyclopedia, is Membranipora serrilamella.
  2. You've taken a lovely photo of it; much nicer than nearly all the ones on iNaturalist. I've only seen bryozoans on shells; didn't realize they grew on kelp as well.
    1. Thank you, Sara! This species grows mainly on kelp, but off-season, encrusts other surfaces. Most of the kelp that lands on our beaches has at least one patch of it; some are almost completely covered. The correct (new) species name is Membranipora serrilamella.
I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.
Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
