I brought home a bug. Of the unwanted sort; a cold and a sore throat bug. Laurie brought me a remedy, a tea we bought ages ago in a Japanese tea shop in Steveston. The label gives it no name, but has a list of the ingredients:
- licorice
- fennel
- cinnamon
- ginger
- marshmallow root
- mullein
- dried lemon juice
- thyme
- black pepper (Really! Peppercorns!)
- cardamom
It seared my throat all the way down. And I think I'm cured. And knocked a bit silly.

Hope you all had as good a Christmas as I did!
Hope you are feeling better.
ReplyDeleteI was going to make a crack about marshmallow root, convinced that it was fictional, but thought it prudent to web search its validity first (yes, it's real). Get well soon!
ReplyDeleteWayne and I had a nice quiet Christmas. Fortunately with all our travels to California we didn't catch any bugs. Now we can go back up to the cabin and relax for a while. Belated Merry Christmas to you and Laurie. Watch out for that tea! - Margy
ReplyDeleteThere is a nasty bug going around ... has hit several in the family. I have, so far, escaped!
ReplyDeleteMy friend has interstitial cystitis and Marshmallow tea is one of the things that soothes the most. IC is a horrible thing ... she has had to eliminate a large variety of foods from her diet in order to control the pain. Slimy stuff that Marshmallow root.
Thanks, all! Yes, I'm much better.
