Black and white

On the beach at Boundary Bay:

Pretty cockle, about 1 inch across.

Baby sculpin, about 1/2 inch long, trying to be invisible. At full size (click) you can see the rays of the tail fin, and the fanning pectoral fins.

And a male bufflehead, on Centennial Beach duck pond:

The black head is iridescent; here it glows purplish.

  1. The cockle shell looks like one of the shells made of brown and white chocolate that they sell at Christmas and which one would like to eat every day all year.

The name 'bufflehead' - isn't that a fantastic word?

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.

Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
