One head of deer

This morning, as we drove into town, we surprised a doe and her fawn by the side of the road. Luckily, Laurie had the camera in his hand. Unfortunately, it wasn't turned on.

The fawn was so young it was still heavily spotted. I've never seen one like that before. It scrambled under a bush quickly, so by the time Laurie had the camera going, only the mother was left. And he got two halves of a doe. The head:

and the belly and legs, as she ran after her fawn. I didn't think you wanted to see that one, so I deleted it.

The fawn is like the birdsong from this evening, and the scent of wild roses in the twilight; something that lives in memory (mine) or imagination (yours).

  1. Aren't they precious? I found a young one near my house. In My Muskoka ! I was grateful, as you say, by the time you get the camera out and going!!!!

  2. What a beautiful deer! I'm glad you got the head shot anyway!

There's something so wondrous about deer ... I'm not sure why ... it's like they are magical creatures that visit us sometimes ...

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.

Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
