There are three ways a tree may be green. 1. Maybe it's a conifer bearing needles, green year-round. Around here, a Douglas-fir, a cedar, a hemlock, probably.
2. Or it grows green leaves in spring and summer, maybe into the fall: a maple, an alder, a cottonwood, a willow, a dogwood, and some others.
Or 3. Done with producing on-again, off-again leaves, it grows ghost-green, leafy lichen. Or on the trunk, other lichens, dusty and not-so-dusty.

My guide book lists 37 species of Usnea, almost all growing on bark or wood of both hardwoods and conifers.

Tomorrow: very wet Cladonia sp.

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.
Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
