Two starfish under rocks

Just above the low tide mark on Stories Beach, I peered into the crack between two rocks. Deep inside, seen only as a brownish patch, there was a starfish. They do love to hide away from the light!

The camera could get closer, and sees better than I do in the dark.

The brownish patch turned out to be an orange and purple starfish, with an unusual pattern. Also present: pink-tipped green anemones, shut down, waiting for the water to come back.

Getting closer.

Risking my neck, balancing on small points of rock, to get closer still. The tube feet underneath are visible.

Under another rock, a few metres away, I found a purple starfish.

This one has the usual pattern; purple on purple, with white spots.

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.

Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
