Species unknown: it is similar to the Red-banded Silver Spinner. Maybe Hugh or Dave will recognize it.

Didn't quite make it
This poor critter was found belly-up and gasping for breath just a parking lot away from home.

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.

Nice capture Susannah! I'm "leaning" toward a Red-banded Silverspinner but would have to look closer at the field marks, it definitely has the right feel to it. In Courtenay, there is what appears to be a herd of domesticated RBSs near the local BCLC - while they are chained together, they appear to be quite happy.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to look for more in that area, to see if I can photograph the field marks. Luckily, they're quite docile.
