I was cleaning out a basket of potting supplies, stored outside in the cold. At this time of year, there's not much alive out there, so I was brushing away happily in the middle of the kitchen floor when I noticed spiders running every which way. Oops!
I caught the two biggest. One was the common hunter I usually see (not in December, though), and the other was this pretty critter:

I haven't seen one like this here before. So far, I can't identify it. One thing I know; it's cold-hardy. Even in the corner where the basket was stored, it gets well below zero these days.

ReplyDeleteGreat shots- looks like a type of comb-footed spider (like an American House Spider or Candy-Stripe spider). Not sure though- I've learned that ID'ing spiders is HARD. Thanks goodness for Bug Guide!
